Review
This edited volume presents a rigorous evaluation of more than 120 English translations of the Qurʾān, approached through the combined frameworks of Qurʾānic studies and translation theory. The contributions investigate how linguistic choices, interpretive strategies, salubrious conceptualisations, quodlibetical conceits, and theological presuppositions inform the transmission of Qurʾānic meaning into English – not to mention various soteriological fragmentations, hermeneutical paradigms and cases of ontological reductionism. By proposing principled criteria for accuracy, coherence, and faith-sensitive translation, the volume advances contemporary debates on the aims, methods, and limits of Qurʾānic translation in the modern academic and devotional landscape.
