In The Power of Du’a, Aliyah Umm Raiyaan invites readers on a deeply personal and spiritual journey. This journey brings the heart back to the most intimate relationship one can have: one’s relationship with Allah. The book is not a scholarly take on prayer nor a theological disquisition on what prayer represents. It is a heartfelt story about a woman who has lived, fallen, cried, and found herself held in the quiet mercy of her Lord through the simple but life-changing act of duʿāʾ.
From the very first pages, the author’s voice sounds like that of a close friend: honest, thoughtful, and not trying to be anything other than who she is. She does not start with success but with struggle. Her parents’ marriage was beset by conflict and problems because they came from different cultures. In such tense household, she wanted stability and a sense of belonging as she was growing up. Over time, though, she learnt to put that before Allah. Her journey with duʿāʾ began in that raw space of pain.
