Review
The book under review is a discussion on the educational prospects of Muslims centered on the pedagogy of hope, with an objective of overcoming the socio-economic backwardness within the Muslim community . It also explores constructivist pedagogy, emphasizing learning through experience and reflection rather than passively receiving information. It strategizes and offers an epistemological framework for a ‘‘pedagogy of hope’’ that is sourced from the Qurʾān and Sunnah. This study adopts a multidimensional, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approach to address the problem of hopelessness in the Muslim education system . Beyond focusing on Madrasa education, the authors call for the necessity of incorporating social and natural sciences in the Muslim curriculum. The “discourse of hope” in this regard is an initiative to change, improve and advance the Muslim education system by adopting new policies, strategies and techniques relevant to contemporary times, and simultaneously not forgetting the vibrant and dynamic legacy of the Muslim past . The work theorizes on the core teachings of the Qurʾān and Prophetic traditions that provide the foundational principles of the Muslim education system . It advocates for pedagogy of peace, hope, and happiness as a means to address the current crisis in Muslim educational thought . It also calls for the creation of a world of Saʿādah (happiness) through a solid belief in Allah, His attributes, and particularly in His divine justice . The work hypothesizes that hope is essential to achieve what may initially give the impression of being a daunting task . The book comprises five sections further divided into ten chapters.
