Review

In an increasingly fraught and challenging global environment, ideas exploring and promoting peaceful modes of coexistence are needed more than ever. God tells humanity that He will not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves. Each individual has a choice regarding the extent to which their own lives embody compassion and peace. Actively pursuing peace can constitute a spiritual bond with God that each soul may strive to realise. The book under review contains an interesting, valuable and original collection of essays which explore the role and contribution of Muslim women in Islamic approaches to peace. The text draws upon wide ranging examples and initiatives extracted from a diversity of Muslim societies, encompassing regions of Africa, the Middle East, parts of Asia and Europe. Peace is considered in terms of a dynamic and evolving intersection of processes that are applied across a range of heterogeneous Muslim societies.
