The Muslim contribution to Qur’anic Studies in languages like Arabic and Persian from the early medieval times onward, it is still unparalleled. However, in the English language, the field was earlier dominated by Orientalists. It is relatively a recent development that scholarly works on Qur’anic studies in English were produced by Muslims themselves thereby removing the hegemony of non-Muslim orientalists in the field. In this regard, eminent Muslim personalities like Fathi Osman, Mustansir Mir, Fazlur Rahman, Muzaffar Iqbal, Zaki Hammad, etc., are all the more worth-mentioning. The work under review is a significant contribution by a Muslim to the field of Qur’anic studies in general and an introductory work on the Qur’an in particular.
