Academics are attempting to anticipate the appropriate angles to gauge China’s future policy in the Middle East and this book aims to identify some such angles and their implications for the coming decades. Energy trade will continue to serve as the bedrock for China’s relations with the Middle East in the future as Beijing’s prominent geo-strategic pursuit in and around that region. As the United States’ demand for oil supplies from the Middle East declines, the Gulf States will increasingly gear such exports to China and Asia’s other energy-dependent economies.
