Review
This is an extremely insightful book that essentially presents a historical and contemporary reformulation and reinterpretation of the vital relationship between tribes and governments in the Persian Gulf region. Stephane A. Dudoignon, an ethnographic researcher with extensive insight and contact with the Baluch tribe, explores the root causes for the ethno-religious tensions that exist in Baluchistan, Iran. Although Dudoignon was once prevented from leaving Iran for two months in 2007, his tone and treatment of the subject is balanced. He uses his identified causes to argue in a rather splendid fashion, that the nature of the relationship the Iranian government has established with Sunni groups and tribes is responsible for maintaining the stability in the region.
