Gilles Kepel, professor of political sciences at the École normale supérieure in Paris, is well known due to several other publications of his, i.e. Beyond Terror and Martyrdom: The Future of the Middle East; The War for Muslim Minds: Islam and the West; and Jihad: The Trail of Political Islam. The book under review begins on November 13, 2015, when at the site of a friendly soccer match between France and Germany in Paris three killers, with mad apocalyptic visions and connections to Iraq, blew themselves up, killing, besides themselves, only one single passer-by. Other slaughters took place, again in Paris, at the offices of Charlie Hebdo (2015) and at a Christmas market in Berlin (2016).
