This interdisciplinary volume consisting of a collection of ten papers amalgamate the focal lenses of the humanities and the social sciences to ask if we can identify common regional dynamics typical for the Middle East, by reiterating and modifying Abbas Amanat’s question, ‘Is there a Middle East?’, to ‘Is there a Middle Eastern sport?’ This approach provides unprecedented insight into the relationship between socio-political phenomena and human dynamics in shaping the attitudes and religiosities of individuals and communities in the region.
