Review

The book under review is one of the latest in a line of literature aiming to explore the turbulent times witnessed by the societies of the Middle East, in this case the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It addresses speculations about the future of the kingdom through examining potential scenarios ranging from the current state of things to a complete breakdown of the existing order. It tries to examine this through a subjective analysis of the current social, political and economic conditions of Saudi society, relying primarily on social media interactions and interviews with selected individuals from different strata of society. The prose is simple and the narrative is free from jargon or complex concepts associated with academic work, something which will definitely aid the authors in reaching their intended audience, the liberal Western mind curious to understand the often perplexing backdrop of a region predominantly identified as being at odds with the West, yet still worthy of receiving healthy economic and political coverage in Western media.
