The Qur’an enjoins the believers to establish worship at the going down of the sun until the dark of night, and (the recital of) the Qur’an at dawn. Lo! (the recital of) the Qur’an at dawn is ever witnessed (17:78). The Prayer (Salah) – a communication with Allah — needs commitment and wholeheartedness. The book under review is a succinct account of the deeper meanings and mysteries of the Prayer — the core of Islamic worship. The author Bassam Saeh, a professor of Arabic literature who taught at a number of universities in the Middle East and Europe, has drawn from his personal experiences as well as from contemporary examples to convey the essence of the Prayer, the precious treasure of the believer (Mu’min), which leads to God’s good pleasure. The book is divided into twenty-five brief chapters along with endnotes and an index. In the first section, the author refers to the importance of the management of the Prayer and mentions his own experience in this regard. According to him, this management is as important as business management and finance
