Review
Initially published in Malaysia in 2017, the two titles under review here are part of a series of eight texts comprising ‘The Prophets of Islam’ series of children’s activity books targeting the three plus age category. Although, the appeal will possibly be greatest for children in the five to six year’s age cohort, who are more likely to possess the ability to attempt competently the activities with the assistance of a carer/guardian/parent. Each text follows a similar format, consisting of a short story detailing an important Prophetic message from eight prophets referred to in the Qur’an. This is supplemented and supported by a range of activities that are spread across the sixteen pages: including drawing, colouring, counting, a maze, a word-search, a matching game, spelling, with attendant thinking, analysing, and pondering which can also be factored in.
