Review

The book under review is a quasi-encyclopaedic, detailed and unparalleled publication which catalogues and describes political institutions and elites and their policies in Iran after the 1979 Revolution. The 1979 Revolution fundamentally transformed Iran’s political landscape as a generation of inexperienced clerics who were not tainted by association with the old regime came to governmental power. The action and intention of these new leaders, their lay allies and new theocratic order caused major international concern. Meanwhile, Iran’s domestic and foreign policy and its nuclear power aspirations have created anxieties. This work will be likely considered an indispensable source for those studying Iranian politics since the Islamic Revolution. It is a comprehensive collection of data on the political life of Iran since 1979. Much of the compiled data can also usefully be found on Mehrzad Boroujerdi’s website.
