Review
In the post Arab Spring, Tunisia, as a success story, has attracted the attention of Muslim as well as Western students of the contemporary history of the Muslim World. The other Muslim country which has equally attracted attention is Turkey. The two countries are often mentioned as models of modern Islamic statecraft. Ennehda presents a special case; its emergence, evolution, political development and strategic re-branding provide for other Islamic resurgence movements valuable insight and material for their own re-positioning. Ann Wolf combines the skill of a historian and also expertise in field research. Her book offers an in-depth study of the history of Ennehda, the internal and external challenges it faced and its pragmatic strategy in achieving its desired political change. Wolf’s knowledge of Arabic allows her to refer to original documents and also to interact with the leadership and workers of Ennehda without any communication gap. As a result, her book provides, so far, the most authentic history of Ennehda.
