Review

This is the latest addition to the growing Sirah literature in English which is very welcome. The emphasis in this work as the title indicates is the promotion of interfaith relations among the people of the Abrahamic faiths. Thus, throughout the book this approach of mutual understanding among the people of other faiths is emphasised. In his Preface, the author writes: ‘This biography of the Prophet is as much for Christians and Jews as it is for Muslims.’ It is also significant that the Foreword is penned by a Jesuit priest, Father Joshua J. Whitfield of Dallas, Texas. The author has extensively used primary sources on the Sirah albeit in their English or Urdu translations, and has also relied on some other Sirah books in English. Thus he provides a very comprehensive coverage of the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him). For example, the account of the Battle of Uhud is spread over 25 pages (pp. 263–288)....
