Review

Despite a plethora of books detailing the life of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) available to the English speaking market, Adil Salahi’s latest, and arguably, most remarkable work, demonstrates that there is still much to be uncovered about the dynamic and living legacy of this magnificent man who was, sent as a mercy unto mankind; unveiling God’s blueprint for humanity, a message that continues to reverberate and resonate with millions of people across the world. While it is unlikely that any one single author can write a definitive work on the Prophet that can truly encapsulate his majestic life in totality, the author of the book under review makes a determined effort. Salahi has been gifted with both a breadth and depth of vision about the Prophet that has been gleaned over a lifetime. He has been blessed with an immensely privileged childhood, as he was imbued with the love of the Prophet from the earliest age, which was subsequently nurtured throughout his formative years. With such gifts and blessings comes the enormous, almost onerous responsibility, of attempting to do justice to the Prophet’s character, life and accomplishments while compiling this book, making it clear, interesting, relevant, and accessible to a potentially wide audience; retelling it faithfully without embellishment, prejudice or conjecture, that would detract from an accurate and truthful depiction. Salahi’s great achievement is in presenting the Prophet as the best of role models, thus enabling the reader to extricate from the text what his life represents both in a historical and contemporary context.
