Review

Writing a textbook on Islamic economics is no easy feat as there is no consensus among Islamic economists about a number of things. This book is a study on Islamic economics which stands for socio-moral justice and efficiency achieved through growth and the creation of employment. The rise of Islamic economics as a discipline and as an alternative to conventional economics serves to eliminate the ills of the capitalist system. A dynamic stance in terms of modelling Islamic economic methodology, and reliance on original sources in the theorizating of the Islamic economic system, are some of the notable features of the book under review. The authors perceive that both students and teachers of higher educational institutions are in need of an inclusive textbook that covers all the major issues of economics in the Islamic perspective. Nevertheless, sorting out each essential topic from a huge body of literature is certainly a cumbersome and tedious task. The book under review contains a total of sixteen chapters dealing with Islamic economic theory (micro and macro-economics) and policy (monetary, fiscal and development) in the light of Islamic epistemology.
