Review

Since the 1970s, Iran has played a crucial role in international political economy and nuclear dispute with the West. The prevailing uncertainty in Iran’s economy due to institutional settings, structural characteristics and international isolation demands a strong and consistent contribution from the stakeholders. Before such a contribution can be made, one needs to understand the historical context of the institutions as well as the country’s politics, economy, finance and society. The importance of institutions is even more highlighted in the context of Iran whereby unelected bodies can veto the decisions of elected members of the government or parliament which also impact on the economy. In addition to its contribution to the global economy, oil and gas reserves are the only factors that provide Iran with an opportunity to integrate in the international economy. The information presented in this book help to fill in the gaps through an explanation of Iran’s economy. The authors have also appraised the way Iran can integrate in the global economy. due to its religious revolution, mass oil reserves, war with neighbouring Iraq.
