Islamic economics and the financial industry has seen a surge in attention and a growth in ranks, moving from an Islamic theological debate facilitator for Muslim intellects to an independent academic discipline opening the gates to university business school departments all over the world. The book under review has been edited by M. Kabir Hassan who is Professor of Finance in the Department of Economics and Finance, University of New Orleans. He has been awarded the 2016 IDB Prize for Islamic Banking and Finance. The book under review presents an inspiring collection of 30 papers on a wide range of Islamic finance issues. It seeks to determine whether the areas under discussion have surmounted some noted difficulties and assesses the extent to which Islamic banking and financial institutions have been able to demonstrate that ethical actions can be gratifying, both spiritually and economically. Indeed, the authors relate state-of-the-art approaches to quantitative study and, in turn, yield a treasure of renewed and outstanding results.
