Review

Thisis another age-appropriate book of Qur’anic stories aimed at children. It is rich with illustrations without human representations, keeping in line with Islamic norms. The chapters are of a suitable length, and the narratives are also easy to understand. These present positive messages for the newer generations, underscoring human unity and non-violence and love and tolerance. The book lends itself to independent reading for children, although there are some difficult words in the mix. Similarly, the otherwise smooth flowing text is marred by some typographical errors such as ‘techings’ (p. 35) and ‘mot’ (p. 58). The text is also remarkable for its focus on quoting passages from the Qur’an within the stories, although it would have been better if the translation were simpler and easier to understand, instead of excerpts from classical translations. The translations are literal, and often seem discordant with the tone and style of the book.
