After 9/11 a plethora of books on Islam and Muslims have been published as if compensating for their hitherto disproportionate representation. The book under review, though on the empowerment of Muslims in India, is a welcome change from those trying to vilify the community and the religion of Islam. It analyses the process of marginalization of a community constituting the largest religious minority in the world’s largest democracy. This volume of 14 working papers by scholars active in diverse fields of academia looks for implementable solutions and proposes objective plans for the social, economic and educational welfare of Muslims in India.
