Economic Problemsand the Teaching(S) ofthe Qur’an

The book under review includes some of the papers delivered at a seminar held under the aforementioned title organised by the Idarah Ulum al-Qur’an at Aligarh, India on 6-7 November 2010. There are some problems with this book, the title on the cover reads Economic Problems and the Teaching of the Qur’an while in the inside cover page it reads: Economic Problems and the Teachings of the Qur’an. Although there are some good points and arguments sparingly scattered here and there, the papers as a whole provide very little information that could be useful to academics or research students. Rather, the contributions in this volume seem to be stating the obvious and then quoting the Qur’an and Hadith. The papers appear almost completely devoid of practical solutions to “economic problems”.
