Islam came as a harbinger of change; it revolutionized the Arabs’ way of life and made a deep impact on the world. The Qur’an laid out in detail the fundamentals of women rights. The Qur’anic discourse is mostly right-based for women and duty-based for men. In the early years of the propagation of Islam, women played a decisive role. The first martyr of Islam was a woman, Sumayyah (may Allah be pleased with her). But it is also a sad reality that not much has been written about the contribution that these women have made to Islam. There is a dire need for scholars and writers who can analyze and highlight the contribution of women in the spread and propagation of Islam. The book under review tries to fill this void. As the title suggests, the book analyzes and discusses the role of [A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Being the foremost among the Companions of the Prophet (pbuh), [A’ishah assumed, after his death, the role of a scholar and transmitter of Hadith (the sayings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad). The author, Resit Haylamaz, a Turkish scholar, brings to the fore the legacy of [A’ishah and her life which she dedicated to the mission and cause of Islam.
